Head of Chemistry

We are seeking to appoint an excellent, inspirational and highly skilled teacher to lead the teaching of Chemistry. Our Science Department is a dynamic and forward-thinking team of five dedicated teaching staff, supported by a skilled technician and led by an experienced Head of Science. We are proud of our collaborative ethos and our commitment to delivering an outstanding science education.

The department benefits from two well-equipped wet laboratories and a dedicated dry laboratory primarily used for Physics, providing excellent facilities for practical and investigative learning. We follow the AQA examination board, offering both Combined Science and Triple Science at GCSE, alongside A-Level courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

Science at our school is engaging, inspiring and hands-on. We are passionate about fostering curiosity and enthusiasm for the subject, both inside and beyond the classroom. Our students benefit from a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including STEM and CREST award programmes, and we take full advantage of our beautiful school grounds to extend learning outdoors wherever possible.

Head Of Chemistry Application Pack February 2026

Head of Design and Technology

We are currently seeking to appoint a Head of Design Technology to join Gosfield School. Since the construction of our brand new Design Technology workshop was completed in 2019 the subject has become one of the most popular in the School. The successful candidate will be able to teach Design Technology to all ages, from Primary up to A level and will have the knowledge, drive and passion to lead and further develop our Design and Technology provision.

We have a purpose built well equipped workshop designed for pupils who each have an individual workspace. The workshop contains traditional wood working machines such as: a bandsaw, bob sander, fret saws and a vacuum former, but also boasts CAD/CAM facilities for 3D printing, laser cutting and vinyl cutting. Supporting spaces include an IT suite with a clean space for graphic design work, 10 sewing machines and large cutting table for pattern drafting and textile design.

In addition to the Teacher Job Description, the Head of Department/Subject Co-ordinator has the following responsibilities:
1. To be responsible for the support and academic development of pupils within the department.
2. In consultation with other members of the department to be responsible for producing an annual Department Development Plan which
• Clearly identifies targets for the department consistent with the Whole School Development Plan
• Forms the basis for budget requirements relating to capitation, INSET funds and other resources
• Clearly identifies professional development requirements
3. To be responsible for ensuring that all resources, within the department are used to enhance the
effectiveness of teaching and learning. To engage in such Quality Assurance procedures required to monitor
and develop the quality of teaching and learning within the department.

Trainee Teacher of French and Spanish

We are now seeking an outstanding full time Trainee Teacher of French and Spanish (one year contract).

Subject to eligibility, successful applicants may be able to access a tax-free bursary of £20,000, or a scholarship of £22,000 (French, German or Spanish only) through the British Council, as well as a tuition fee and maintenance loan to help fund teacher training.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding trainee classroom practitioner with the ability to inspire a love of languages and foster high academic achievement.

You will work towards your PGCE qualification and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and will gain the skills, knowledge and practical training needed for a successful career in language education.

You will need a good honours degree or a recognised equivalent qualification together with a high level of fluency in at least one modern language.

Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers and other professionals to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that fosters the development of each child.
We are looking for an experienced LSA ready to make a real difference, supporting the growth and achievement of our pupils. Based in the Prep School, you will support classes and small groups as well as individual pupils in a 1-1 capacity. The post will also include playground supervisor duties. This post could on occasion involve responsibilities for supporting children in class and teaching classes when the need arises if a candidate has the necessary skills. Level 3 Qualification and experience in delivering Read Write Inc desirable but not essential. We wish to appoint for an immediate start or as soon as possible.

Chef Manager

Gosfield School are looking to appoint a Chef Manager who will be responsible for the operation of our catering service, delivering excellent standards of food quality. You should have a passion for providing children with a varied menu which encourages healthy, educated choices. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join the Gosfield school team.

You will need to be organised and calm under pressure, friendly and creative, confident being a Team Leader and working under your own initiative. You will have experience as a Catering Manager or part of a catering team and be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of catering and health and safety legislation. A Hospitality and Catering NVQ level 3 or equivalent, including Level 3 food handling /food safety, is essential for this role.

We can offer you a friendly and supportive work environment, polite and happy customers and a chance to really make a difference to our children’s lunchtime experience.

School Minibus Driver (0 hours contract)

Gosfield School is an exceptional co-educational Independent School set in 110 acres of parkland, serving Colchester, Chelmsford, Sudbury and South Cambridge area. At the heart of our success is our commitment to a personal education tailored to your child. Our class sizes are small, averaging 15 to 20 pupils and never more.

Although not academically selective we offer all the advantages of close attention in the classroom and wide open adventure outside of it.

We wish to appoint a Minibus Driver to safely transport children to and from School, collecting and dropping off at various points on a given route. You will need to be available Monday to Friday during the school term time to work for two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon (10 hours per week). Flexibility to undertake additional, ad hoc driving work during the School day for fixtures, trips and other purposes is an advantage. Applicants must possess a D1(not 101) category licence and/or a CPC Licence.

This is a zero hours contract.
