Cricket Academy

Developing Young People through the Ethos and Values of Cricket

Our Cricket Academy is firmly embedded within our through school community from Prep, to Senior and into the Sixth Form. Within the outstanding facilities of our 110-acre estate is our cricket pavilion and cricket ground with outdoor nets as well as indoor nets in our sports hall. Our Cricket programme enables all boys and girls to engage with the skills, values and ethos of cricket from the age of four.

This offers members of the Cricket Academy students the opportunity to train all year round with one of our visiting Cricket Coaches. The Academy produces a number of county cricketers and allows us to play cricket to a high standard. In 2023, our under 15s Team were crowned National Champions and the under 13 Team were runners up in the National Competition.

Inspiring in 2023

During the 2023 cricket season, our pupils excelled in competitions. Our Under 15s team won the national Independent Schools Association Cup and our Under 13s were runners up in the same competition. Our Under 13s, 14s and 15s reached the finals of the Essex Schools Cup.

Truly inspiring!

Our Cricket Programme

The programme is led by Ben Stephens, who also runs the Joe Root Academy. Ben is assisted by former First Class cricket players and coaches from Essex County Cricket Club.

Whilst focussed on cricket, our programme teaches skills that are transferrable to a range of sports with an emphasis on the importance of physical fitness, mental well-being and social development whilst instilling the traditional values and sportsmanship that underpin cricket and set it apart from other sports.

Perfectly aligned with our school’s ethos, cricket programme ensures that everyone participates and benefits.

Scholarships

We offer a number of scholarships, available each year to able cricketers who qualify for our programme. Generous scholarships available based on ability and are at the discretion of the Principal and Director of Sport.

A Scholarship Day, which will include social and academic assessment as well as practical playing skills, is held annually with scholarships offered to join the school the following September.

Year 7 and Year 12 are the standard scholarship access points for internal and external pupils. We may offer scholarships outside these points but only under exceptional circumstances.
