A NEW eco-centre has been opened in honour of a teacher who has worked at the school for 25 years.

Gosfield School officially opened its new eco-centre, named the Phil Davies Eco Centre, in April.

The centre is named after Phil Davies, a long-serving teacher who has been with the school for 25 years and is set to retire this year.

The centre aims to provide students with practical learning experiences in sustainability, conservation, and environmental responsibility.

It features a yurt equipped with solar panels, a rainwater collection system, eco-friendly furniture, and a compostable toilet.

The centre was made possible by the fundraising efforts of the school’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) over two years.

Rod Jackson, the principal of Gosfield School, said: “The Eco Centre represents everything we stand for at Gosfield—innovation, experiential learning, and a holistic approach to education.

“Thanks to the remarkable commitment of our PTA and the inspirational leadership of Mr Davies, we now have a facility that will educate and inspire generations to come about sustainability and the natural world.

“This hub for outdoor learning embodies the original vision of John Turner, Gosfield’s founding headmaster—a vision that Mr Davies has so passionately brought to life.”

The new centre is named after Mr Davies in recognition of his contributions to the school, particularly his role in establishing the school’s Forest School.

Mr Davies has been a key figure in promoting outdoor learning, nature, and ecological awareness at Gosfield School.

The opening of the Phil Davies Eco Centre coincides with the tenth anniversary of the Forest School at Gosfield.

The official opening ceremony was attended by Mr Davies, principal Mr Jackson, members of the governing body, families, and students.

The school hopes the new eco-centre will serve as a hub for outdoor learning and further enhance the educational journey of its pupils.

They also look forward to welcoming students, parents, and the wider Gosfield community to celebrate this achievement.
