Prep School Academic Scholarships Introduction

Gosfield School’s Prep School Academic Scholarships are available for all children qualifying for Years 1, 2, 3, and 4 age groups.  They provide an inclusive opportunity for more-able children to unlock latent potential through a rigorous all-round education with an additional emphasis on preparation for 11 Plus examinations. A limited number of Prep School Academic Scholarships are available each year, with a percentage of the School Fees for the Scholarship places subsidised by the School at the Principal’s discretion.

Outline

Class sizes average 15 pupils and never more than 20; ensuring a personalised education for all. Broad, subject specialist teaching and learning in our Prep School includes specialist facilities for lessons including Science, Languages, Design Technology, Sport, Music and Food Technology; all providing a head start for Senior School curriculums. In addition to their year group’s curriculum, Scholars can attend an 11 Plus class during activity time one afternoon after lessons to develop their learning in Maths, English and Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning. Homework, including past-papers, is set during these sessions and activity intensifies for a short period as the 11 Plus test approach in Year 6. The sessions run between 4 and 4.45pm and our School buses depart at 5pm.

Applications

Applicants typically start in September, but may enter at any time during the year if unallocated places are available in their Year group.  The application process includes an age-appropriate computer-based assessment that provides data indicating the applicant’s natural academic capability and their learning aptitude.  In addition, applicants and parents meet with the Gosfield School Principal and the Head of our Prep School, with the Principal’s decision being final. Applications can be made at any time with assessments and meetings arranged to suit.

In addition to the application process, your child is welcome to join their year group for a day as a Guest Pupil before deciding to arrange an assessment.  They will experience a typical day within our School, meet new friends and get a feel for all that we offer – which in turn helps families to make the best-informed decision about whether to proceed.  To initiate a private tour, a Guest Pupil Day or an application, see below.

Conclusion

Scholars enjoy all the freedoms and independence that Gosfield School provides to all its pupils, with our commitment for all to Grow, Achieve and Inspire throughout their time with us and into the future.  Alongside academic rigour, the Spirit of Adventure is central to our 90-year heritage, and pupils enjoy ongoing opportunities to develop their ability to problem solve and to take responsibility for themselves and others – both in our Forest School within our 110 acres of parkland, pitches and forest, and during numerous activities, expeditions and other adventures.

Children learn best where they’re happy; and we provide a friendly, family atmosphere with all pupils’ wellbeing and development at its centre.
