Performing Arts Academy Launch

I am delighted to let you know that Governors have recently approved the commencement of building for our new Performing Arts Centre. Building works for phase one of this impressive building will start during the Summer holidays and will see the external structure completed, internal walls erected and services in place with a timeframe of approximately six months.

The overall cost to completion of the building is £1.67m. At present, we are fully funded for phase one of the project at a cost of almost £1m. Part of this funding is drawn from the development levy which is added to fees and my thanks to you for supporting this levy and helping make developments such as this possible.

Phase two of the project is the fit out of the building and phase three, the technical fit out for lighting and sound and specialist flooring. Governors are actively seeking funding of almost £700,000 for these phases, including grant funding and there will no doubt be some fund-raising events along the way to assist.

I am also very excited to announce that on September 1st, we will launch our Performing Arts Academy which will include Drama, Music and Dance. Mr Nick Bell, who studied at the prestigious Royal Central School of Speech and Drama will join us as our new Head of Performing Arts. As with our Cricket Academy, every pupil at the school, at whatever level of ability, will participate in the Academy in our three tiers; Grow, Achieve, Inspire. Full details of the Academy will be on our website very soon and until such time as we can move in to the Performing Arts Centre, the Academy will operate from the School’s main building in the Performing Arts Studio, Music room and Dining Hall.

The Performing Arts Centre will also provide a performance venue and a communal space for whole School assemblies. As pupil numbers have grown so markedly in recent years, it has been increasingly difficult to bring all of our pupils together to celebrate our through school values. On completion of the Performing Arts Centre we look forward to this being a regular part of daily School life.

Governors take great pride in making this announcement. It has been an incredibly difficult time for us all but we cannot allow the events of the past 15 months to stifle the opportunities that we want to offer our young people.

Of course, the building of our Performing Arts Centre and the launch of our Performing Arts Academy would not be possible without our parents and carers. Our sincere thanks to you for your continued support.
