boarding school for ages 4-18

On Monday 19 September, all of Year 8 took the opportunity to visit the Royal Palace at Windsor. Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and the Official Residence of Her Majesty The Queen. Its rich history spans almost 1000 years. The Castle covers an area of about 5 hectares (13 acres) and Year 8 were able to look at:
• Magnificent State Apartments furnished with treasures from the Royal Collection
• St George's Chapel (one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings in England and the burial place of 10 monarchs)
• Queen Mary's Dolls House, a masterpiece in miniature
• The Drawings Gallery featuring an exhibition
Our students were able to see the changing of the guards at the castle, as well as look at various aspects of the development of this magnificent and iconic building. This will link into the work Year 8 will be reading on the Tudors in particular. Year 8 were impeccably behaved at all times and hopefully enjoyed being able to experience the feel of History outside the classroom. Year 7 will be following in their footsteps next week when they head to the Tower of London on Friday.
