24-hr fundraiser sees Gosfield School students and staff raise over £2,000 for The Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust and St Bart’s Hospital, London.
Kwik Cricket, Football and Karaoke were just a few of the exciting activities staff and students at Gosfield School took part in when they held their 24-hour fundraiser for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust and Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. The event raised over £2,000.
The event began at 2.15pm on Friday 25th November and ran until exactly 24-hours later. Staff and pupils raised money by asking friends and family to sponsor them.
With proceeds going to two fantastic causes, the event was thought up by Gosfield School’s Headboy and Sixth Form student Ethan Gilbert. “I wanted to do something fun for staff and students, which encouraged them to work together, which at the same time raised money for two very worthwhile charities,” he commented.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to all students and staff who took part throughout the event, and who managed to keep going for over 24 hours! We’ve raised over £2,000 and money is continuing to come in - thank you to everyone who sponsored participants and thanks also to Barclays Bank and Domino’s Pizza, who both donated to the event.”
A proportion of the money raised will go to the Bodley Scott Ward at St Bart’s Hospital in London. Pat Gray, Senior Manager, attended the 24 hour fundraiser. “The event is such a wonderful idea, and I am overwhelmed at the enthusiasm of both students and staff at Gosfield School,” said Pat.
“The Bodley Scott haemato-oncology unit provides state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities and treatment for all forms of blood cancer. Our team of internationally recognised experts has been instrumental in the design and use of novel treatment approaches, such as bone marrow transplantation, many of which are now used routinely.”
Nina Blamire, a teacher at Gosfield School, helped organise the event. She commented: “Both charities are very significant to a number of people at Gosfield School, so we decided we wanted to give something back. Everyone had a terrific time and thanks to everyone involved.”
