The sun shone for the ISA Regional Cross Country competition that we hosted for the first time yesterday—but it was still bitterly cold. The racers, around 800 of them, from ISA schools all over East Anglia, were not deterred and ran superbly through our fields and woods.
Of the 24 competing Schools, runners from 21 schools qualified for the Nationals, including 4 from Gosfield. Special congratulations go to Emma Lovegrove and Luke Allen who came first and second respectively in their races.
From when the first visitors arrived at 9am to when the final minibus pulled away at 3pm, it was a marvellous day. Thanks to FOGS, there were baked potatoes to restore the runners and hot drinks to keep the spectators warm. The Laos expedition team ran a tuck shop, too, so everyone had plenty to eat and drink. Lots of pupils and teachers acted as marshalls; only Miss Blamire and Brett got to ride the quad bike ‘hare’!
Miss Slater was delighted that all her planning and preparations meant that the event ran smoothly and Mr Lloyd compiled the results quickly so that winning runners could receive their medals before they headed home. Many of our visitors commented on how well-organised and enjoyable the competition was.
Everyone involved in the day—pupils, teaching staff, parents, cleaners and groundsmen—helped to make the event such a success. As Miss Slater observed, ‘Roll on next year!’
From Gosfield, Emma Lovegrove (1st), Luke Allen (2nd), Luke Robinson (9th), Connor Hume (9th) and William Simons (12th) have all been selected for the ISA Cross Country Championships at Princethorpe College on Saturday 3rd March. Congratulations to them all.
