Learning Behaviours and Approaches to Learning Descriptors

Years 7 – 9

Pupils in Years 7 – 9 continue to have targets set and attainment measured in line with the Gosfield Scale. This scale correlates directly to the individual subject predictions provided by CEM for pupils in these year groups and ensures that teachers can accurately assess and report on individual pupil performance.

Attainment and Target Grade Descriptors, Years 7 to 9

Years 10

Pupils in Year 10 have targets set and attainment measured in line with current GCSE grades A* - G for all subjects except English and Mathematics which will use the new grading 9 – 1. This is in line with how examination boards will be awarding grades in 2017. Based on information from Ofqual and using the current GCSE grading for comparison, a grade 7 is the equivalent of an A grade and a grade 5 is the equivalent of a low B/high C grade.

Years 11

Pupils in Year 11 have targets set and attainment measured in line with current GCSE grades A* - G for all subjects. This is in line with how examination boards will be awarding grades in 2016.

Years 12 - 13

Students in Year 12 will have targets set and attainment measured in line with AS Level grades A - E and students in Year 13 will have targets set and attainment measured in line with A Level grades A* - E.

Eventually we will move to all target and attainment grades for Years 7 – 11 to the new 9 – 1 grading scale, continuing to work with the Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring to ensure that they are as accurate as possible.

Examinations

All pupils sit internal school examinations once a year, Years 7–9 during June and Years 10–13 during January.

Mock exams for Years 10-13 will take place from Wednesday 10 January 2018 to Friday 12 January 2018. The results for all mock exams are reported on a mock results card. Further information is then included on the full report which follows shortly afterwards.

Internal exams for Years 7-9 are during w/c Monday 5 June 2017. The results for all internal exams are reported within the full report.

Years 7, 8
and 9

Pupils in Years 7 – 9 have end of year exams during June when the regular timetable is collapsed for up to one week and pupils sit examinations to test their understanding of the work covered over the academic year. In addition pupils may also be required to do a speaking exam in French and Spanish. Pupils sit examinations in the Sports Hall in the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, French, Spanish, History and Geography. The end of year exams for Art, Computing and Music are taken during lesson time in the summer term, before the end of the reporting period. The results for all internal exams are reported within the full report. End of year exams are not taken in RS, PE, PSHE or Creative Carousel subjects (Food, Forest School and Performing Arts).

Years 10, 11,
12 and 13

To avoid disruption to the curriculum during term time, Years 10 – 13 sit mock exams during January in all GCSE / A Level subjects. These mock exams give pupils an opportunity to develop their revision skills during the school holidays and will enable them to consolidate their learning from the very beginning of their examination courses. There are some exceptions where there is a conflict of deadlines with coursework set by the examination board, for example, Art GCSE and A Level, and in these instances the mock exam will take place at a more suitable time. The results for all mock exams are reported on a mock results card. Further information is then included on the full report which follows shortly afterwards.

External The following external examinations are compulsory within the school:

Year 11

GCSE Examination

Year 12 and 13

AS/A Level Examinations

The 11+ examination is not compulsory but the school supports pupils and parents who wish to take the examination.

In addition, all pupils will at some stage sit a diagnostic test, which enables us to support pupils in achieving their full potential.

The cost of external GCSE and AS/A level examinations will be invoiced to parents on entry to the examinations.
