boarding school for ages 4-18
As part of the Reception Class topic this half term of ‘The Jolly Postman’, the role play area has been transformed from a busy Doctors’ surgery into an equally busy Post Office! On Thursday 24th November, we will be visiting the Royal Mail Delivery Office in Braintree. We will have a guided tour of the Delivery Office and get to see Royal Mail staff at work and find out what happens to all the letters and parcels before they are delivered to our homes.

We had a very exciting morning in Reception this week when we emptied our post box and discovered that someone had delivered a special letter for each child. Each letter was beautifully written and illustrated by a fairy tale character and had been sent in hand made envelopes! We can only think the Jolly Postman visited Gosfield School with messages from Goldilocks, Jack, Mr V.Bigg, The Three Bears, Cinderella and more. As you can imagine, the children were absolutely thrilled!
…..Mrs Allen and the Year 6 children were very keen to hear about our special delivery!
The children have also found sparkly fairy dust on plants and grass outside the palace in the Reception garden which we think might have fallen from the dress of a princess who visited one day after school when we had all gone home!

The children visited the school office to help our Office Manager, Mrs Bowles, prepare the mail for posting. A quick demonstration on how to use the franking machine and the children were let loose!

Thursday 24 November
The class visited Braintree sorting office to see for themselves where the post is taken once it is collected from the post box and what happens to it next.

On Tuesday 22nd November, children in Reception, Year One and Two, came to school in bright, fluorescent clothes and taking part in a ‘Beep! Beep! Day’. It is a special event created by ‘Brake’ the road safety charity and is part of National Road Safety Week aimed at raising young children’s awareness of road safety. We practised crossing roads in the school grounds and outside the school, as well as taking part in fun activities throughout the day which teach children to stay safe near roads! Each child donated £1 to the charity Brake who support families bereaved by road crashes.
