ISA CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION

More than 800 pupils from over 20 schools took part in the ISA cross-country event featuring the cream of East Anglia on Wednesday 1st February.

This was the first time the event, for children in Years 4 to 13, was hosted by Gosfield School.

Congratulations to Emma Lovegrove (1st), Luke Allen (2nd), Luke Robinson (9th), Connor Hume (9th) and William Simons (12th) who have all been selected for the ISA Cross Country Championships at Princethorpe College on Saturday 3rd March.

The course took participants across the school’s fields and woodland, resulting in many muddy, but happy, children at the end of the day. Presentations took place after the races, with medals going to third, second and first places. Nicola Slater, head of PE at Gosfield School, organised the event and said: “It was a very successful day, magnificently showcasing the sporting ability of youngsters across East Anglia.

“We are particularly proud of our pupils who took part, with a significant number qualifying to run in the nationals.

“Thank you to everyone who took part and helped out on the day and well done to everyone who ran in the race.”

Principal Dr Sarah Welch commented, ‘We were delighted to welcome so many visitors to Gosfield School and look forward to hosting similar events in the future.’

Results for the competition are available from our homepage.

Go Wild At Gosfield

‘Go Wild at Gosfield!’ held on Saturday, 28th January was a great event! Children aged 3-6 had been invited to come along to meet an exciting collection of animals brought in by a professional animal party company. Animals included a meerkat, birds of prey, a chinchilla and a fruit bat! Deputy Head Mrs Allen was part of the team organising the event. She commented: “Everyone had a marvellous time! It was lovely to welcome so many families to the event and to see the children interacting with animals which they may not have come across before." We were quite relieved to see the hissing cockroach and the snakes put back in their boxes!

DAVID HOCKNEY EXHIBITION

What a spectacular exhibition this is, the artwork of a prolific British artist producing works of a huge scale to be admired by so many. Mrs Gwynne and Mrs Blamire took the GCSE Art, Food Technology and Graphics pupils to see this special exhibition at the Royal Academy in London knowing they were in for a real treat. Pupils made their notes and sketches from the exhibits to inspire their own work on return to school. The exhibition included digital film, Ipad drawings, photomontage and paintings documenting the breadth of Hockney’s successful career.

The pupils also enjoyed a tour of many sights in London including Hamleys, Oxford Circus, Carnaby Street and finally China Town. Here the pupils took time to explore the Chinese supermarkets and restaurants whilst taking in the wonderful decorations and culture. This was a thoroughly enjoyable day for all.

Last but not least, their teachers report that our Gosfield pupils were impeccably well behaved and represented the School as mature and respectful young people. Well done and thank you.
