New principal announced

Dr Sarah Welch.

Dr Sarah Welch has been appointed to the position of Principal at Gosfield School and will take up the role at the start of the winter term in September 2010.

Dr Welch joins the school from her most recent position at King William’s College on the Isle of Man, a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 4 to 18 where she was Principal of the College and also had overall responsibility for Buchan School,the College’s Junior School.

Before moving to the Isle of Man, Dr Welch was Deputy Head and Acting Head at the renowned Malvern College in Worcestershire, a co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 2 to 18. Dr Welch gained her PhD in English at the University of Missouri in the USA and held the position of Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina. She has also taught in Africa.

Peter Sakal, Chair of Governors said “Dr Welch brings a wealth of experience to Gosfield and we are delighted that she has accepted the position. We are in no doubt that Dr Welch will continue to build on the excellent work of our current Principal, Mrs Goodchild who leaves us at the end of the summer term”.

Dr Welch will be attending the school’s Open Day on Saturday 24th April, 10am – 1pm and will also be at Speech Day on Tuesday 13th July from 11am.
