Curwen Print Studios

On Monday 1st February, we went to Curwen Print Studio, Cambridgeshire to assist us with our GCSE Art and Graphics courses. Throughout the day, we were shown many different techniques of printing of which we were then allowed to try out for ourselves.

Curwen Print StudiosWe were assisted by resident artist Sue Jones. There was much art on display which included the works of Rolf Harris and Angie Lewin. Amongst all the techniques we were shown there was a mixture of traditional and modern techniques. A couple of the printing types we tried were Relief and Intaglio printing. They were both really different but fun and we were really pleased with the results. We used a variety of equipment relevant to the course including a traditional printing press. The day was split into three parts of which the last half hour was spent watching industrial printing in action. We were shown by a printing expert how images are produced on large scales. This trip also allowed us, and I am sure others, to put into action what we have previously studied and allowed us to see the relevance of the course to real life process. It helped us improve upon skills and knowledge needed for our GCSE courses.
